NEDIRPC Old Bird Flyers

Looks like a great start to your Old Bird Season!

I may not have mentioned this to everyone.

Especially with laptops you want to set the hibernate or sleep setting of you computer to never. If the computer or laptop goes into standby or hibernate mode it will disconnect wincom from the Internet. Not to worry once you have restored the Internet connection just shut wincom off and restart it.

You can check these settings for your computer - click on:

CONTROL PANEL >> POWER OPTIONS >> Set standby and hibernate to never. You can check your computer but I do not think the screen saver is a problem or if the monitor shuts off

ALL NEDIRPC OLD BIRD FLYERS

I want each of you to test out your system at home this week so I can for sure have the registration bugs worked out prior to the first race.

Run your birds through the clock in training mode

You can either clock the birds live at the loft with wincom running or just bring the clock in the house after you have clocked them and upload them to the Internet

Start wincom on your PC and if your Bird List has already uploaded to the Internet then Press 2 and Press the enter key. The menu will change to polling clock and then posting data. Once it is finished the regular wincom menu will reappear.

Your birds should now be on the Internet on the days trainer

If your Trainer birds do not show on the race report call me.

ALL NEDIRPC MEMBERS

If you plan to fly Old Bird Races PLEASE bring your Unikon module with a training toss in it to the meeting 20-Feb-2010.

Even if you do not plan to participate in the Live Clocking, it is imperative we have you properly registerd at Wincompanion to upload your results.

Thanks in advance,

Terry

The Wincom program that resides on your computer is very straight forward to install.

WARNING READ THIS CAUTION FIRST!!

The only caution are the 2 possible Security warnings the first time wincom sends data to the Internet:

1st WARNING - Unknown Publisher - uncheck the check box to ask this question every time wincom starts

2nd WARNING Windows or Virus Checker Firewall - allow wincom to connect to the Internet select UNBLOCK

IF YOU DONOT ACCEPT THIS UNKNOWN PUBLISHER AND UNBLOCK YOUR FIREWALL, YOUR COMPUTER WILL TREAT WINCOM AS A VIRUS AND IN SOME CASES ERASE IT FROM YOUR COMPUTER

The install is very straight forward.

1.Connect your clock to the PC with the special deister serial cord and turn the clock on.

2. When you click the setup link sent via email SAVE the Setup file to the desktop

3. Close the download box when finished downloading. Goto the desktop click the setup icon, follow the prompts to the end. (the program will open automatically after the install is finished) If the clock is properly connected to the PC the menu will boot up.(if you do not get the menu your clock is not turned on or you do not have the right serial cord or you do not have Internet access)

4. Press 1 and enter on the Wincom Menu - The computer will poll the clock for its bird list and try to upload them to the Internet. Now is when the two SECURITY WARNINGS will appear if they are going to, some computers will give none some only one.

Unknown Publisher warning - uncheck the check box to ask this question every time wincom starts Click OK

Firewall or Virus Checker Warning - You must allow wincom to connect to the Internet select UNBLOCK on Windows XP or ALLOW on Windows Vista Click OK

If your race secretary has gotton you pre-registered properly on Wincompanion, your birds should now be on the Internet. Open your Club site on Wincompanion, Click Birds on the Menu at the top of the page , select your name press Go and wa la!! the bird list in your clock should be there

5. Last step is to test the Race Key. A Race or Training toss must first be started by your Race Secretary on Wincompanion before you can send Race birds or trainers to the Internet. From the wincom menu press 2 and enter and once the menu says posting and comes back your race or trainers should be on the Internet. If no birds appear in the race or trainer you may not be registered properly or you did not load your birds up first.

Good Luck,

Terry

Importing the colors from the clock is brand new. The color code is a new feature of the latest Unikon software update.

I think there are some colors that are not being imported due to the typing character that is being used. example the # is BBPD (blue bar pied). The ' is WH (white) etc. These characters are reserved as special in the scripting language I use, PHP. I am going to have to figure out how to escape them properly in order for the color import to work 100%.

We do have a manual solution to the problem. You can login and edit or add the colors on your birds yourself.

If you do not know your user name and password you can retreive it from the login screen. Click the forgot password link and fill in your email address and name. Click submit and your user name and password will be sent to you via email. If I do not have your email address then email me and I will send your user name and password to you.

Click the login button at the bottom of the screen login and it will take you to the Flyer's Menu. You can edit colors or delete birds one at a time from the links at the right on your bird list or you can use the update color and sex link and update your whole team at once. You can also edit your user name and password form the Flyer menu if you want to change them to something more familiar.

We ran a test race with Danny Hutchins birds today from 45 mles and all went well. His time is off an hour from daylight savings time last summer.

Grant Crain loaded the wincom program yesterday and we put his bird list on the Internet too.

I added a color import function for the birds this morning. Part of it may not be working right, there appears to be a lot of colors missing on Danny Hutchins birds. The color field was an added improvement in the last Unikon program update. My Club has just started installing the upgrade.

From now on the colors will import with the birds band numbers and sex from the Unikon clock.

Cheers,

Terry
