UPDATED 4-21-13

Those of you who left birds here for me to fly on my old bird team you can see our club results posted each week by going to MY CLUB RESULTS page.Thanks for allowing me to fly some of your birds. They were turned to the South direction for Old Birds but are doing pretty good. From the South my loft is East of the line of flight and 2nd longest Loft.

Birds are arriving every week and we look forward to a great race for 2013. We are taking birds until June 1st . We have the first groups lofting in and settled to the loft and will work the birds in smaller groups each day the weather allows us the chance. We will do an inventory of all birds that have been settled this week and let you know if you need to send a replacement. By head count we have only lost 3 or 4 in the settling process so all is well. Thank You all for your support.

3-5-13 BIRDS ARE COMING IN AND WE ARE STARTING TO LOFT IN THOSE THAT ARE HERE. ALL IS GOOD AND THE BIRDS SEEM TO BE DOING WELL. THE WEATHER IS UP AND DOWN , WARM, COLD, SNOW AND WARM AGAIN. WE WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED AS WE MOVE ALONG WITH THE LOFTING IN PROCESS. BEST OF LUCK TO ALL.

WE HAVE ANOTHER LOFT INVENTORY CLOCKING UP FOR YOU TO SEE ON THE LIVE CLOCKING PAGE. WE ARE STILL HAVING A FEW CLOCKINGS THAT ARE NOT SHOWING UP OR HAVE NO NAME BY THEM. WE WILL BE WORKING ON GETTING THESE FIXED AS WE KEEP TESTING. THE UNIKON IS SLOW IN TRAINING MODE AFTER IT CLOCKS THE FIRST 250 BIRDS BUT WORKS FINE IN RACE MODE. WE ALLOWED THE CLOCK TO REMAIN ON FOR TWO DAYS HOPING TO GET ANY BIRD THAT MAY HAVE BEEN MISSED AND WE DID PICK UP MORE ON DAY 2. WE WILL KEEP WORKING ON THIS UNTIL WE EVERY BIRD CLOCKING AND UPLOADING.

*8-1-2012 UPDATE Well, the heat is on! Record breaking heat is smashing all time highs in the OKC Area. Today our temps could reach 113 degrees. We know this has to be very stressful for the birds however they appear to be doing well regardless of the heat. We do let them out everyday but do not force them to fly. We are giving lots of fresh water and plenty of baths during this period. The only problems we have seen in the heat was a couple of respritory issues but nothing major. We hope the heat wave breaks before long so we can start working the birds around the loft and getting them use to the training baskets. We will start road training after and only after we feel the birds are loft flying the way they need to be as a group. We like them to be giving 1 hour plus on the wing for at least two or three weeks prior to road training. With this heat we may be hard pressed to start in early or mid October but we will just have to see what Mother Nature gives us. The birds are top priority above all else. The molt is starting to finish and the 10th flights are growing in. I do have some concerns about the birds not eating as much as they were. I know it is normal in heat like this but with the flights growing in they need those certain seeds for proper feather growth. I will be adding a few supplements that offer help in that area to ensure the birds have what they need one way or another. Until the next update, have a great summer! Randy

Hello Everyone 7-4-12 update****HAPPY 4TH OF JULY**** THE ROUTE66RACE.COM IS NOW FULL! WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND WISH ALL OF YOU THE BEST OF LUCK! THE BIRDS ARE DOING GREAT AND HAVE BEEN OUT NEARLY EVERY DAY FLYING AROUND THE LOFT AND ROUTING OUT. OUR TEMPS HAVE BEEN HOT BUT THE BIRDS SEEM TO BE DOING VERY WELL. HEALTH IS GOOD OVERALL. I WILL BE PULLING FLIGHTS AND POXING ALL BIRDS THIS WEEK AS WE ALWAYS DO AROUND THE FOURTH OF JULY. I WILL GET THE CHANCE TO CHECK EACH BIRD OVER AS THEY ARE HANDLED. NOT MUCH TO REPORT OTHER THAN THIS. THE POX MAY SLOW THEM DOWN FOR A FEW DAYS BUT WE WILL CONTINUE TO LET THEM OUT . AT LAST COUNT WE HAVE NOT LOST MANY BIRDS AT ALL . SOME WERE NEVER REPLACED FROM OUR LAST INVENTORY BUT OTHER THAN THAT WE ARE LOOKING VERY GOOD ON NUMBERS. MY PLAN IS TO LOFT FLY THE BIRDS ALL SUMMER AND HOPE TO START ROAD TRAINING THE SECOND WEEK OF SEPTEMBER. WE WILL CERTAINLY WATCH THE HEAT ONCE WE START TRAINING AND KEEP THE BIRDS SHORT UNTIL OUR FIRST COOL DOWN. ONCE THAT HAPPENS WE MOVE THEM ON OUT AND HOPE TO START 2ND OR 3RD WEEK OF OCTOBER WITH THE FIRST RACE. ONCE WE GET TO 75 MILES IT WILL BE TIME TO SEND IN THE ENTRY FEES SO WE CAN GET THIS SERIES STARTED. AGAIN, BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF YOU IN THE RACES.
