CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE 2017/2018 LATE HATCH CLASSIC WINNERS. THE FIRST 21 PIGEONS  DID A GREAT JOB.  THIS WAS A VERY CHALLENGING YEAR WITH THE PIGEONS BECAUSE OF THE SICKNESS AND THE HEAVY LOSSES.  THE BIRDS THAT MADE IT THROUGH TRAINING AND WENT TO THE RACE WERE IN SUPER CONDITION AND PROVED IT ON RACE DAY.

WE HAD A NICE CROWD ON SATURDAY FOR THE ORIGINAL SHIPPING AND ON SUNDAY FOR THE FESTIVITIES.  WE HAD ANOTHER GOOD CROWD ON WEDNESDAY WHICH WAS THE DAY OF THE RACE.

WITH THE GOOD RETURNS AND TALKING TO THE FANCIERS AT THE LOFT ON RACE DAY WE HAVE DECIDED TO HAVE A RE-MATCH RACE ON SATURDAY, MARCH 3RD.  THIS RACE WILL BE FROM 360 MILES AND THE ENTRY FEE WILL BE $200 PER BIRD.  IF WE GET 200 ENTRIES THE PROJECTED PAY OUT WILL BE:

*1ST   7500

*2ND  5000

*3RD  3000

*4TH  2000

*5TH  1500

*6TH - 20TH  1000 EACH

PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR BIRD GOING BACK IN TRAINING AND PARTICIPATING IN THE RACE.  I WILL PULL OUT ALL BIRDS THAT FANCIERS DO NOT WANT TO SEND TO THE RACE AND ALL OTHERS WILL BE TRAINED.

PLEASE SEND IN THE $200 ENTRIES BY MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH SO WE CAN RECEIVE THEM IN TIME FOR THE RACE.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT,

RACE DAY INFO

RACE DAY IS FAST APPROACHING. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE WEATHER FORECAST CLOSELY. THE WEATHER ON THE COURSE WE FLY CHANGES HOURLY. TODAY (FRIDAY) HAS NORTH WINDS AND WE WOULD HAVE AN EASY RACE. BUT THE FORECAST FOR SUNDAY CALLS FOR STRONG SOUTH WINDS (HEADWINDS). ON THIS COURSE WHEN A LOW PRESSURE IS COMING IN WE GET HEAVY WINDS THROUGHOUT THE DESERT. WE HAVE A LOW PRESSURE COMING IN SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY. WE WILL STILL BASKET THE BIRDS ON SATURDAY AT 1:00PM AND GET THEM TO BENTON IN PREPARATION OF RACE DAY. WE WILL HAVE ALL THE FESTIVITIES ON SUNDAY AT THE LOFT. I AM TELLING YOU THIS BECAUSE IT WILL BE A TOUGH RACE.

THE BIRDS ARE WELL PREPARED AND READY FOR THE RACE. IF THE WEATHER BECOMES TOO BAD THAT THE BIRDS ARE IN JEOPARDY, WE WILL BRING THEM BACK TO A STATION WERE THEY WILL BE ABLE TO NAVIGATE HOME SAFELY.  WE WILL THEN CALL THAT A TRAINING TOSS AND THEY WILL FLY THE RACE ON THIS TUESDAY OR THIS WEDNESDAY (weather permitting). I HAVE FLOWN THIS COURSE FOR MANY YEARS IN REGULAR SEASON AND HAVE HAD ONE LATE HATCH CLASSIC RACE IN SIMILAR CONDITIONS WITH TERRIBLE RETURNS. I WILL ONLY DO WHATS RIGHT FOR THE BIRDS.

HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE THIS WEEKEND,

THE LATE HATCH CREW.

Feb-02-2018

HELLO FANCIERS,

WE GOT SOME PRELIMINARY RESULTS FROM THE LAB LAST NIGHT.  THE DOCTOR SAID SHE COULD NOT SEE ANY VISUAL SIGNS OF ANY SICKNESS SUCH AS CANKER, AIR SAC PROBLEM ETC..  SHE SAID THAT ALL ORGANS LOOKED VERY HEALTHY AND THE FLESH HAD THE RIGHT COLORING. SHE SAW NO SIGN OF LEFT OVER POX.  WE HAVE HAD POX ONE OTHER TIME IN THE PAST AND THAT WAS THE WORST YEAR I HAVE HAD SINCE RUNNING THIS RACE AND I DON'T WANT TO REPEAT IT AGAIN.  SHE IS STILL GOING TO DO SOME MORE MICROSCOPIC RESEARCH AND GET RIGHT BACK TO ME.

WHEN I GOT THAT NEWS I DECIDED TO GO ON A 50 MILE TOSS TODAY. THE BIRDS WERE RELEASED IN SMALL GROUPS 3-5 MINUTES APART.  WE HAD THE BEST TOSS WE HAVE HAD THIS SEASON. I HOPE THAT MEANS WHATEVER WE HAD IS BEHIND US.

I HAVE SPENT ALOT OF TIME WATCHING THE BIRDS AND CHECKING HOW WELL THEY HAVE DIGESTED THEIR FOOD AND SMELLING DOWN THEIR THROAT FOR A CROP FUNGUS.  I'VE NEVER SMELT DOWN SO MANY PIGEON'S THROATS IN MY LIFE!!  EVERYTHING IN THE LOFT LOOKS GOOD AND THE BIRDS ACT GOOD.  THE DROPPINGS ARE RIGHT AND THEIR APPETITES ARE GOOD.

SO WE HAVE DECIDED TO GO ON A 150 MILE TOSS EITHER SUNDAY OR MONDAY.  WE MUST KEEP TRAINING THE BIRDS IN ORDER TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL RACE.  I WILL NOT SEND UN-TRAINED BIRDS TO THE RACE AND COST THE FACIERS THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY.  WE DON'T HAVE AN ACTIVATION TRAINING TOSS SO YOU ONLY PAY FOR THE BIRDS THAT GO TO THE FINAL RACE.  IF ALL GOES WELL ON THE 150 MILE TOSS THE RACE DATE WILL REMAIN THE SAME.

Jan-30-2018

HELLO FANCIERS,

I HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS TEAM OF BIRDS. IT IS VERY HARD ON ME WHEN I TAKE THEM ON A TOSS AND WE LOSE 50 OR MORE BIRDS. I SPEND HOURS LOOKING AT THE BIRDS IN THE LOFT TRYING TO SEE ANY SIGN OF ILLNESS.  THE DROPPINGS ARE RIGHT THEIR THROAT'S ARE CLEAN AND THEIR BODY WEIGHT IS GOOD.  THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH A THOROUGH  MEDICATION PROGRAM AND I CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM.  TOMORROW I WILL BE TAKING THE BIRDS TO HAVE SOME BLOOD WORK DONE IN SAN BERNARDINO.  HOPEFULLY I WILL HAVE SOME ANSWERS SOON.

WE ARE GOING TO TAKE A BREAK FROM TRAINING FOR NOW UNTIL WE GET THE RESULTS BACK FROM THE LAB.  WE HAVE TO DO WHATS RIGHT FOR THE PIGEONS IN ORDER TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL RACE.

MOST LIKELY WE WILL BE CHANGING THE DATE OF THE RACE, I WILL KEEP YOU ALL INFORMED.

THE LATE HATCH CREW.
