RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

The birds were tossed from Talihina Oklahoma this morning into mostly sunny skies. Most performed exceptional. We still have 3 birds out. The results are posted on our website. Click on the Results Tab and then click on Training. At this time it looks like Monday will be the day for our next race from 225 miles.

Good luck to all,

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Monday, Tuesday, and today were absolutely beautiful days again. We continue to loft fly the birds for several hours each day. We wanted to race on Saturday but the weather will be bad on Saturday and Sunday. Right now the weather report shows very nice weather on Monday. Based on that information we plan to drive the birds to Hutchins Texas on Sunday and release at 8:30 on Monday. To keep the birds sharp we are going to toss from 53 miles tomorrow.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Today was another gorgeous day. We put the birds out for 3 hours and they flew and flew. We didn't force them to fly but they stayed in the air most of the time. I'm slightly nervous about a hawk attack but what can we do? We had another bird return at 8:30 this morning. NANZ 2363. When we called the birds in they were given a rich feed mixture with Herbots Zell Oxygen and Optimix added. We fed them all they wanted. While they were outside we winterized their perch sections. Pictures have been posted on the RVR News Page on our website.

Good luck to all,

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

3 more birds returned today. KAMP 5567, APC 15236, and HIC 5986. The weather was beautiful today so we loft flew the birds for about 3 hours. We didn't force them to fly but they did exercise off and on until we called them in. We started the birds on a 3 day treatment for Tricomoniasis and Respiratory. The Respiratory medicine is a combination of Doxycycline, Suanovil, and Tylan. The birds have had all they want to eat since returning from the 150 mile race. When they came in from exercising today we gave them safflower and they loved it. We have 6 birds in the loft that flew the 1st race but not the 2nd due to not having their race fees paid. There are 4 other birds here that were removed early on due to an injury. All their owners were contacted before the race series began. We will loft fly the birds everyday and plan to toss the birds 1 time before the 225 mile race from Hutchins Texas. This next race should take place next weekend.

Good luck to all,

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Today the birds were released into beautiful blue skies with no wind. Only a few dipped their beaks and sipped a little water. I waited to basket the birds this morning until daylight to allow the birds to drink when they came off their perches. I was glad we didn't toss earlier today when I saw all the heavy fog along the rivers and lakes. At 1 point I literally could only see about 50 feet in front of me for over 1 mile. The fog burned off long before the birds were coming home.

When released the birds shot out of the crates and headed for home in a tight small flock. I predicted a 2:15 arrival and was really happy to see that the 1st group arrived at 2:07 and change. I was disappointed at the overall results and will go to work to have them perform better on the next race. We observed all of the later birds coming on the line of flight.

The next 2 races will have double the points as posted in the updates. This will allow the birds a chance to move up in the points on the longer 2 races. On the last 2 races the birds will arrive near the release location the day before. This will allow them to rest well.

We will leave the clock on all day tomorrow.

Yours in the sport,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

It has been raining, cold, cloudy and windy everyday since right after our 1st race. We haven't even been able to loft fly the birds. The rain is supposed to be ending tomorrow morning but remaining cloudy with some wind the rest of the day. Tuesday the weather is supposed to be decent again, then nice weather for at least a few days after that. Our current plan is to loft fly the birds on Monday afternoon, a 35 mile toss on Tuesday, loft fly on Wednesday, and race from Windom Texas on Thursday. This will be 150 miles. The weather report is calling for sunshine with light cross headwinds from the NW. All of our races are from the SW to the NE. I didn't want to wait this long between races but the weather hasn't cooperated.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving Day went well!

I will try to send out an update to everyone's email with my Yahoo account. At this time we don't know if they will allow us to mass send the updates. If this doesn't work we will have to try another option. Since all this takes time I am going to post the payouts for our race series here.

We sent 148 birds to the 1st race so 148 x $125 = $18,500 prize pool. In addition to the 10 free perch fees we are awarding, we will also add $100 to be able to pay the following prizes:

225 Mile Race

1st - $1500

2nd - $1000

3rd - $750

4th thru 10th - $350

11th thru 15th - Free Perch

300 Mile Race

1st - $2000

2nd - $1500

3rd - $1000

4th thru 10th - $700

11th thru 15th - $400

16th thru 20th - Free Perch

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

The weather report keeps changing. We will race your 150 mile race on the 1st acceptable day.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

The points for our 1st race have been assigned. This years point system is based on the number of birds going to the 1st race. 148 birds sent means the points start at 148. The 1st drop gets equal points and all ties (birds that clock in at the same time anywhere on the list) receive equal points for that position. Birds that fail to clock on the day receive no points. The points are assigned in 1 point increments. This will be the same for the first 2 races. On the last 2 races we will double the starting points, so 296 points for 1st. The points on these 2 races will be assigned in 2 point increments.

Again, we plan to fly your 150 mile race in 7 or 8 days. The weather here is supposed to turn really bad for a while. We will fly as soon as it passes. I will post the date of the toss as soon as possible.

At this time (11:59 a.m.) 3 birds have arrived this morning. Hopefully we will get some more throughout the day.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

I am reversing my idea of selling the birds that were not activated for an obvious reason. It's unfair to allow someone to buy a bird that is ahead of other birds in points and begin racing it. My only thought when I came up with this idea was to get more money in the prize pool for everyone. It would be $750 more. I focused on that point exclusively and didn't realize the problem with it until after the post. Those 6 birds are now out of the race series. Once they are removed from the results their points will go to the birds that deserve them. Our point system will not allow us to enter the points in Wincompanion until the race is closed, which was at dark this evening. The birds on the 1st drop will receive equal points. There will be 1 point increments for the 1st 2 races and 2 point increments on the last 2 races. The birds not clocking on the day will receive no points. We plan to have the points applied by noon tomorrow. It is supposed to be pleasant and sunny tomorrow but windy. I am hopeful the remaining 11 birds will come home.

Continued good luck to everyone,

Bobby Pollock
