RIVER VALLEY

Hello race participants. After the 25 mile tosses posted on our website we took the birds 35 miles and released them into blue skies with some white puffy clouds. Cool temperatures. The birds did not perform very well. After 2 hours we had 22 birds home. Shortly after that the birds began to arrive in larger groups and more frequently. They came on the line of flight but not in good time. We lost about 8 birds. After that the rain set in for a few days. Then heavy fog in the mornings for the last couple of days. They are calling for fog again tomorrow morning. We have been keeping the birds active by loft flying all the days the weather allows. The birds exercise well and look healthy. We are going as fast as circumstances allow. I am hopeful the next 35 mile tosses will go well so we can move out further. After some 50 mile tosses we will fly the 75 mile activation toss. I wanted to have some good news to report before informing you about the 35 mile toss but the weather has prevented us from tossing for about a week now. Several of you have told me that waiting that long was a mistake Laughing. From now on I will try to post every few days.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. The birds were tossed from 25 miles yesterday. The results are on the website now. I will rest the birds today and tomorrow to give the few late birds a chance to be ready to start up again from 25 miles. If this toss goes well we will toss from the top of the mountain above Red Oak Oklahoma. We can Google Earth this location but I think it is about 35 miles. Also I am worming the birds with Moxidectin Plus today and tomorrow. This is a great worm medicine made by the Austrailian Pigeon Company (APC). We order it from Siegel's Pigeon Supplies (800-437-4436). It usually arrives in 3 days. I plan to loft fly the birds tomorrow.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. The birds turned in a much better time today from 20 miles. Tomorrow we go to 25 miles. CBS 904 returned this afternoon with a crop injury. I don't think this bird will recover in time to be competitive. We currently have 3 injured birds that cannot compete. Check out the current post on our News Tab.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. It was very cloudy yesterday so we tossed the birds 2 times from 8 miles. They did great. Today it is sunny but windy. 9 mph headwinds with 15 mph gusts. We tossed the birds for the 1st time from about 20 miles. We clocked 185 birds in 1 minute and 11 seconds. Again, I am training 26 of my birds until the races start. You won't see them on the training results list. We will post todays training toss in a few hours for you to look at. It is supposed to be very nice again tomorrow so we plan a repeat of todays toss. If that goes well we will jump to 25 miles on Tuesday.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. Great news! The birds shaved about 9 minutes off their time from yesterday! We clocked 190 birds in 1 minute and 3 seconds! The other 5 birds were close behind. We will post this 15 mile toss tomorrow. We will also toss the birds from the same spot tomorrow and post that result also. Hopefully on Saturday we will move out to 20 miles. For those of you who are watching the numbers, I have 26 birds of my own being trained with your birds. They don't show up on the result list. Once the races start my birds will be kept in the loft.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. The birds are doing so much better at this time. We posted 2 more short tosses on the website. This last toss is the same location where we had so much trouble before. Something that seems to have made a big difference is the cool weather in the mornings. All the birds come in hard and fast and best of all...NO PANTING! Before the birds would come in from a short toss and be panting so I am so happy this has changed now. After the birds left for their toss I realized I had overlooked Eastern Nebraska Syndicate 5546. He isn't missing. He will definantly be going on the next toss. It's possible the clock missed 1 bird. As you can see on the report 151 birds clocked in 1 minute and 13 seconds! I witnessed all the later birds come in and they were flying hard and fast and trapped quickly. They attacked the feed upon trapping. None of them acted weak in any way. So no need to worry at this point they are still learning. Keep checking back every day or two as we are training most days now.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. Today we tossed the birds from 5 miles and they came like bullets. After a lite feed and water we took them 8 miles. We posted the results of the 8 miles on the website. Click on results. Then click on training. 2 Birds didn't get clocked due to so many birds trapping at the same time. Tomorrow will be a repeat of today. After that we will move out farther.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. We backed up and tossed the birds yesterday from 5 miles. The birds performed very well. After they ate a lite meal and drank, we took them right back and tossed them again. Today we moved out to about 7-8 miles and tossed the birds two times. They performed excellent. The birds returned in 10 - 11 minutes. About 12 birds came in about 5 minutes later. Tomorrow we will toss from about 15 miles. If they perform well we will probably toss twice. I plan to clock the birds this weekend on a toss and post for everyone to see how their birds are doing. The birds look great and we expect to continue training most days. I would like to have the birds coming good from 50 miles in about 10 more days.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. I am sorry to report a bad toss. We had the birds loft flying for over 1 hour before we started training this year. We taught the birds to eat and drink in the shipping crates. We gave them 2 tosses from 100 yards. 3 tosses from 1/2 mile. 4 tosses from 1 1/2 miles. 4 or 5 tosses from 5 miles. We tossed from 15 miles with very good results. All tosses in small groups with time in between to ensure the birds weren't just following the other birds. After I sent out the last update we tossed from 15 miles again. I set up the clocks and prepared to video the birds arriving and trapping in. At 1 1/2 hour 1 bird trapped in. by the end of 2 days we were missing 18 birds. This is with only half of the birds tossed as we didn't load up the other half when we saw the first half wasn't doing well. We waited a few days and tossed the other half from 15 miles. After 1 1/2 hours 1 bird was here. At the end of 3 days we were missing about 28 birds. In addition 2 birds have flown into a wire and are too injured to continue. Ross Hull from Wing and a Prayer Loft called and told me that ALL of the races and flyers he knows of have lost a huge amount of birds. He had his birds out to 20 miles and dropped back shorter to help some new birds to catch up. He had 3 birds home on the day. He lives in the North East of the U.S. From what I can tell the Tulsa Federation is experiencing many lost birds this year as well. The few 1 loft races I've checked out have lost many birds already. Ad Schaerlaekens says that in Holland and Belgium flyers have come to expect to lose about half of all their youngbirds. I don't know what is causing this but it seems to be world wide. I believe it is environmental. Natural or man made I don't know. Conspiracy theorists can check out HAARP. The governments effort to affect the weather has supposedly caused many problems such as with migratory birds. We will regroup and start tossing the birds from 5 miles and work out slowly. In addition we are starting another respiratory treatment. We will post an another inventory list next week.
