RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

We tossed from 3 miles 2 times this morning. The birds flew fantastic. All the birds beat me home and were inside on the 1st toss. I drove home faster on the 2nd toss and got to see the last 3 birds going inside. The plan is to toss 2 times from 5 miles tomorrow, weather permitting. I will post the results. If this goes well I will cross the Arkansas River and begin tosses on the other side the following day.

So far so good,

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. We started tosses on Monday of last week. The birds have been released 6 times from 100 yards in front of the loft, 3 times from 1/2 miles, and 2 times from 1 1/2 miles. We flagged the birds prior to the toss each day. The plan tomorrow is to toss from 3 miles 2 times. If everything goes well we will toss 5 miles after that. I will publish the results of the 5 mile toss. We will continue to toss almost everyday, weather permitting, increasing the distance every 2 or 3 tosses. It shouldn't take long to have the birds ready for our 75 mile activation toss.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

It's time!!! Training tosses begin on Monday. We've been flagging the birds every day and have them exercising good. The last birds have finally completed their neck molt and all the birds look great. We just wormed all the birds again with Moxidectin Plus for 2 days. A 14 day respiratory treatment with Doxycycline and Tylan was completed right before that. It finally cooled off about 1 week ago and now we have beautiful pigeon weather. Unfortunately we have had some hawk problems.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. Dove season put a damper on things for a couple of weeks. We are in the country and only a couple of miles from the river bottoms where a lot of dove hunting takes place. The birds are being flagged at this time. We have basketed and turned them loose 100 yards from the loft 6 times to expose them to the shipping crates and being released from them. The heavy body moult is coming to an end and soon we will begin many short tosses.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. We have posted a loft inventory list on our website at River Valley Roundup.com. We started with 224 birds and have 206 birds left. They look super at this time. We pulled flights and they are growing back in nicely. We plan to start short tosses in 2 to 3 weeks. Several people had trouble finding the Inventory List. 1) Go to the website and click on the "Results" tab at the top of the page. You will have 2 options: Race Results or Training Results. 2) Click on "Training Results." When the page pulls up click on "Live." 3) When the page pulls up click on "View Complete Results." 4) When the page pulls up click on "Select Breeder." 5) Scroll down until you find your name and click on it.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. I hope every one had a nice 4th of July Holiday. Not a lot to report. We are letting out birds everyday. The birds are really healthy and happy at this time and we hope that continues. Almost all the birds are still here. There are a few missing but not many. I will clock and post a list of all the birds before too long.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Holiday. Thank you to ALL our Veterans! These people are the very best of us! We have about 200 birds in the loft at this time with more on the way. We should end up with about 220 birds total. At this time there is not much to report as we are settling all the new arrivals and making sure they are eating and drinking. The birds that have been here a while have been outside 2 times so far and the rest are being trap trained in the settling cage. There are 2 birds missing and we have contacted the owners to replace them.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello breeders. The 1st group of race birds have been outside the loft. We will be letting out the 2nd group in the next few days depending on the weather. At this time all the birds are healthy. We have about 140 birds in the loft right now with more on the way. Let your friends and fellow flyers know about this years race series. This will increase the money in your prize pool. Go to our website at rivervalleyroundup.com and look at our newly constructed settling cage. This will allow many more birds outside at the same time and give them a much better view of their surroundings. We continue to trap train the birds in groups and settle the newcomers to the loft.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. We continue to receive birds each week. We have about 200 perches reserved at this time. About 100 birds are in the loft as of today. All the birds look really good. About 1/2 are ready to go outside but I'm waiting for a nice day with little or no wind. The payout for this years race series would be much greater if everyone would let other flyers know about the 2016 race series. Many are probably not aware there is a River Valley Roundup Race or that you are participating. You would receive a much greater payout with 300 birds than with 200. We plan to increase the race fees next year from $125 to $150. The extra $25 per bird will add thousands of dollars to the prize pool.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello breeders. We are getting more birds every week now. We have more coming tomorrow. That will give us about 90 birds in the loft so far with more to come. We will stop taking race birds in June. All the birds in the loft are looking good at this time. Many are moulting heavily as many of you keep the breeders on extended lights. When they arrive here they are put onto normal daylight hours and this creates a heavy moult. I have 1 group of about 40 birds coming through the traps with all the bobs down. After a few more times they will go out for the 1st time without being in the settling cage. The other birds are getting used to the settling cage at this time and soon will start coming through the traps with a couple of bobs raised. We are finishing a new settling cage that is 12 ft. long by over 3 1/2 ft. wide by 2 ft. high. this will allow many birds outside at the same time. It also leaves over 1/2 of the landing area free so the birds can land and trap without taking the settling cage down each time. Once all the 2016 race birds are trap trained and I'm not afraid of hawk problems, we will remove it. We are expecting a great 2016 race series!
