RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. We are receiving birds every week now for our race series. I think we are ahead of last year at this time. Most flyer's send their birds in April and May. This year the race sections have solid floors down with ground corn cob on top. We also covered the doweled doors with clear plastic. This makes a much drier and more cozy environment than the expanded metal floors. This time of year here, there is a lot of rain and humidity that can cause dampness in the loft. This in turn promotes the growth of bacteria and germs and causes additional stress on the young pigeons. By using solid floors, ground corn cob bedding, and clear plastic over the doors the birds are protected and appear calm and happy. We are currently trap training the 1st arrivals and will have them out soon.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

It's that time again! Birds began arriving today with more coming tomorrow. When the birds arrive they get "dunked" and given an Ideala pill to help recharge them. We put them in a breeding cage with rich food and water so they can learn to eat and drink. While in the breeding cage they are given a worm pill and vaccinated for PMV and Herpes. When we are confident they are ready, we move them to a racing section where they can go out into a settling cage. We are only taking 300 birds this year on a 1st come basis. Good luck to all!

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello everyone. I hope your breeding season is going well. Hopefully many champions are in the nest. Many are training their old birds now in preparation for the upcoming Old Bird Season. I hope everyone has a successful season and finds at least 1 super Old Bird Champion in the group. The last birds being returned should go out on Tuesday. All breeders participating in the 2016 Race Series will need to go to the website at rivervalleyroundup.com and enter. A number of people verbally committed and thought I signed them up. I'm not able to remember everyone so you will need to do this yourself or contact me. If you have any problems or questions don't hesitate to call. We are maxing out at 300 birds this year on a 1st come basis. So sign up as soon as possible. Also, several people asked me to hold back perch fee money from their winnings to pay for perch fees for this year. I mailed out checks without deducting perch fees so you will need to send payments for your 2016 birds. We are looking forward to a great race series!

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

All checks under $600 have been written. We plan to mail them out tomorrow. Everyone who won money and wanted birds returned had the postage deducted from their prize money. We plan to mail birds out right after January 1st. We WILL contact each person who requested their birds back before shipping their birds. As stated in race rule #13, flyers have 10 days after the final race to request their birds be returned. After that they become our property. A flyer who needs birds will be picking them up in a few days. Everyone who won more than $600 MUST submit a W-9 Form before their money can be sent.

Thank you to everyone who participated,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

The only bird to return today is FLY 1581.

Everyone who won less than $600 total will have their checks mailed out by the end of the week. Several people have asked to take out perch fees for the next race series. We will do this but for tax purposes this will not reduce the total amount won. It is 2 different transactions. If you want to have perch fees or even perch and race fees deducted then let me know this within the next 2 days. If you wait longer the checks for less than $600 will already be mailed out.

Everyone who won $600 or more MUST submit a W-9 form. You can easily download the form by going to IRS.gov and click on Forms & Pubs. This option is on the menu bar at the top of the page. Once this page is pulled up look for INDIVIDUALS in the upper middle of the page. The 2nd option down is Form W-9. Click on this and when it pulls up print the page. Once it is filled out you can mail it to our address: Bobby Pollock, 476404 E 1125 Rd, Muldrow OK 74948. Or you can email the filled out form to: bobbydpollock@yahoo.com.

Every bird you sent that was lost before the 1st race will receive a free perch for our next race series. This was our 2nd year and I have learned many things. Those of you who have been understanding, encouraging, patient, and complementary, thank you! It's impossible to enter into anything as envolved and complicated as this without some bumps in the road. Until you personally run a 1 loft race you can't possibly understand. Having said that, next year is going to be great! The 1 major change we will make is that we will prepare the birds and begin their training as before, but wait for the 1st days with cooler air in the mornings before tossing the birds more than about 8 miles. Just like this year we will do many short tosses up to 8 miles to educate the birds, then wait for the cooler morning air to go farther. I believe we would have had about 40 more birds to start the race series with if we had done that this year. For those of you living many miles away, you may not know how hot and humid it is here in the summer. It can be overwhelming to young molting pigeons.

Congratulations to all this years winners!

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

The birds were released at Waco Texas into clear blue skies at 7:50 a.m. They circled 1 time and headed for home. The winds will be about 8 to 10 mph all day from the SSE, so on the birds right side. I expect them to come from the NW between 2:30 and 3:00 but a little earlier or a little later wouldn't surprise me. Our local Barbeque Restaurant is opening just for us today so we will be eating lunch from 12:30 to 2:00 free of charge. We will be giving away bags of Demoines feed and 2 nice hunting knives when we return to the lofts and are waiting for the birds.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Everyone that is planning to be here tomorrow for the final race, please let me know. If you want to eat lunch, be here by 12:00. We will leave for lunch and return before 2:00. If the weather reports are correct the birds will leave Waco Texas with a cross tailwind. As they pass by Windom Texas, most likely to the north, the winds will be stronger. On the last part of the flight they will have stiff side winds. It will take very determined birds to fight the winds and make it back. If they don't navigate correctly and give 100% they will be blown to the North and pass by the loft. We have fed the birds with rich high energy food and lots of it. They have the fuel to make this flight. Good luck to all!
