Hello Longhorn Classic friends,

We are eagerly looking forward to the 2023 race season.

We want your birds to have a great start in the race, so here are our tips:

• Send 45-60 day old birds
• Vaccinate birds for Roto/PMV at 28 days old, then wait at least 2 weeks before shipping. Siegel Pigeons @ (800) 437-4436 sells 50-dose bottles of Roto/PMV vaccine.
• Many breeders agree shipping takes an unseen toll on young birds.
• PLEASE no more than 3 birds per box.
• Lay a couple orange slices flat on bottom of box to give birds some moisture without a mess.

• If possible, feed, then syringe water and box birds the morning of shipping (not the night before).
• Horizon 12" high boxes - best for up to 3 birds:
• Tall (but not too tall) shape provides best air circulation.
• Basically same postage for 1,2 or 3 birds.
• BOX SIZE MATTERS!! BOXES TALLER THAN 12" = MUCH HIGHER POSTAGE.

Groeten vrienden (Dutch for "Greetings friends"),

 Last night we returned from a trip to the Fugare Int'l Racing Pigeon Xpo in Belgium and a week in Paris.

 Here are some highlights:

• We talked with well-known pigeon veterinarian, Dr. De Weerd. He gave us a lot of info about vaccines, pigeon diseases & how to best control them in a one loft environment.
• Longhorn Classic is now using BENZING clocking! We met with Benzing Director, Thomas Zimmerman, and Ed Minvielle of Siegel Pigeons to make the switch (see video below). Looking forward to using the system's great features.
• Met Jurgen of Pijong (automatic feeders). Cool product!
• The Fugare show is larger than any we have in the USA, with over 100 vendor booths & what looked like a couple thousand attendees. Highly recommend going if you can - its a fun and informative experience.
• After Belgium, we spent a week in Paris. We arrived home last night & are ready to get back to work!
• Hope your breeders are cranking out future winners!

Loft Modifications Started @ Longhorn Classic

We've started the loft modifications. See the 15" strip opening under the landing board in front of the loft. Also, see one of the five openings being added on the backside, one in each section. We will add barn doors on the back to be able to regulate the air flow from the back and block rain and wind when necessary.
