RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

We postponed the 55 mile toss today to allow the late birds to rest a reasonable amount of time. We are watching the weather and may try it tomorrow.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Today your birds were released into mostly sunny skies with a 6 mph head wind. This is our official activation toss. However, we will toss the birds at least 1more time from 55 miles on Saturday and at least 1 more time from 75 miles before we start the races. We still have 3 birds out so we will leave the clock on. If you pay the race fee for a bird that gets lost prior to our 1st 100 mile race, your race fee will be returned.

Good luck to all,

Bobby

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

We tossed your birds from 75 miles today. Most birds did real well. The issue the birds have at this point is the high hills and mountains. If they fly a perfect line of flight, or west of the line of flight, they will not have a problem. If they fly east of the line of flight they will take longer due to having to navigate through and around. If they go further east they have to go a long way around. That's why I reported the 55 mile toss usually takes 3 tosses for most birds to learn this. The farther out we go the less this is an issue as the birds are released further west.

The clock is still on in case our few remaining birds trap this afternoon. We have 1 bird here that came home this morning and didn't go to the 75 mile toss. He will be listed on Thursday's toss.

We plan to have our activation toss from 75 miles on Thursday. We plan to have your 100 mile race shortly after that.

Good luck to all,

Bobby

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Your birds were tossed from 55 miles yesterday into sunny skies and 8 mph tail winds. 2/3 of the birds performed well. They appeared to hook into the loft and had flown by slightly. The other birds evidently missed the loft and kept going. Almost all the birds are here. I expect a few more to return tomorrow. I expect them to perform really well by the 3rd toss from 55 miles. This is the 1st time they had to deal with mountains. We plan to loft fly and toss again on Friday.

AU 17 GTO 742 (Bill Hill) was with the 1st drop but got missed with about 116 birds trying to clock simultaneously.

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Everyone. We tossed the birds from 30 miles on Thursday and from 30 miles today. We keep having major weather issues. For instance we had wind gusts up to 46 mph yesterday. Tomorrow we will toss 50-55 miles. The weather report looks good for the next few days and we plan to take advantage of it. It's just about go time.

Good luck,

Bobby

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Cloudy and windy today. We tossed from 20 miles for the last time. This was good training to expose the birds to cloudy conditions. The last 5 birds were in the large group that began trapping 3 minutes and 59 seconds from 1st. We will try a different size board in front of the traps to slow them down enough to scan every bird in the mass group. The next toss will be 30 miles. Just so everyone knows, the next toss station after 30 miles is 55 miles. After that is the 75 mile activation toss. We are getting really close to starting the race seres.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Everyone. The birds performed really well again today. We had 165 birds trap in 45 seconds. Also they were over 8 minutes faster than the 1st 20 mile toss. The clock missed 4 birds. We ran all the birds back over the antennas and the last 4 birds on the list were actually with the 1st birds. We will put a small board in front of the stalls and see if this will do the trick in getting all the birds scanned when they trap. The weather is not great for the next few days. I think this would be a good time to toss 20 miles in cloudy weather with a head wind. The 1st decent day we will toss 30 miles.

Good luck,

Bobby

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Everyone. We had bad weather for 3 straight days. We still managed to loft fly 1 of those days and your birds flew for 1 and 1/2 hours. Yesterday we had fog early and had to wait for it to lift. We tossed your birds from 20 miles and they did really well. So many birds trapped together (167 in 48 seconds) that the clock missed 4. We ran the birds back over the antennas later. The last 4 birds on the result were actually with the 1st birds.

We plan to toss from 20 miles again today. If it goes well our next toss will be from 30 miles.

We found a bird in the group that was missing his ETS band. AU 17 JEDD 1296 had been clocked on earlier tosses but somehow lost his band. He has a new one and will begin showing up on the results now.

Good luck,

Bobby
