RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

We tossed the birds from 12 miles today. A group of birds, almost 1 crate, was a little late with some even later. I hope they weren't hit by a hawk. It is a little suspicious as 1 bird is still missing at 4:45 p.m. The clocked missed a few birds but they were here with the 1st ones. The plan tomorrow is to flag and loft fly early, then toss the birds again from 12 miles.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

We had dark clouds this morning so we waited for them to pass. We tossed the birds into sunny skies with 10 mph headwinds. They performed great as we had over 180 birds trap in just over 60 seconds. I had adjusted the trap in an effort to clock every single bird but it still missed 3 birds. I will go back to the original way tomorrow and we will see. We just may have to accept the fact that a bird or 2 will be missed when this many are trapping together. As everyone knows, once we get out further the birds should be broken up a little and this will take care of it's self. Tomorrow we will toss from 12 miles.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Today we tossed from 7.5 miles from the exact same spot as yesterday. The birds circled low for quite a while before leaving the area. I have no idea why. Because they came home slower than I like, I will toss them from the same spot again tomorrow. If they perform well tomorrow the next toss will be from 12 miles. I believe today was a good learning experience for whatever they were dealing with. The clock did miss 1 bird when the mass group trapped in. The weather here is constantly changing. It was cool temps for a while and then heat and humidity. They are calling for much cooler temps starting this Thursday morning. We should be tossing birds into mid 40 degree weather instead of mid 70's. This should make for good training toss results.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Today we crossed the river and the birds did great. All the birds were here at the same time except the last 2. The weather here is constantly changing lately. Shortly after the birds arrived a system moved in. Right now we have thick clouds and stiff winds. All the birds are here except 1. Yesterday we either had 2 late birds or, most likely, the clocked missed 2. Today all the birds were clocked. Tomorrow we will toss from the same spot on the other side of the river. We are supposed to have cloudy skies so this will give the birds a chance to come home without the sun. If this goes well we will jump out further on the next toss.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Today we tossed from 6 miles. Due to the strong winds coming our way we didn't loft fly before the toss today. We have gusts of over 30 mph here now and I wanted the birds home before this hit. All the birds were here together but they didn't trap as fast as normal because of not loft flying before the toss. This 6 mile toss is as far as we can go without tossing from the other side of the river. Tomorrow's toss will be on the other side, so 8 or 9 miles. Hopefully the birds won't have a problem crossing the water and we can jump out further soon. Don't pay attention to the yards per minute on the training results. I'm using "Inventory" for distances right now and that makes the tosses 1 mile. Once we are out to 30 miles I will use established locations and mileages. That's when the yards per minute will be correct. For now, look at the mileages of the toss and release and arrival times.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Yesterday we had low heavy clouds. It was really hazy all day so we kept the birds in. Today we flagged and loft flew the birds before taking them for another 5 mile toss. We had mostly cloudy skies and cross winds but almost all the birds performed really well. There were so many birds trapping simultaneously that the clock missed 9. I will adjust the trapping system to hopefully slow down the birds enough to clock them all next time. We currently have 2 birds missing but hopefully they will return soon. I want to toss 1 or 2 more times from 5 miles to allow any bird struggling to get in the game. After that we will toss from the other side of the river a couple of times and begin moving out further.

Good luck,

Bobby

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

The birds were flagged and loft flown today. They flew from 30 minutes to just over 1 hour. We had thick clouds so we only tossed from 3 miles. I'm glad we did this as it took the birds about 15 minutes to all be trapped in. I believe this was a good experience. It's supposed to be cloudy with a chance of rain again tomorrow, but if the conditions allow, we will repeat this again. Saturday will probably be nice enough to resume our 5 mile tosses. We will post this one.

Good luck,

Bobby

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

To view today's 5 mile toss go to our website at River Valley Roundup.com. Place the pointer on the "Results" tab. You will have 2 options, "Race Results" and "Training Results." Click on "Training Results." Click on "Live" on the line that says "T5 Mile." Then Click on "View Complete Report" in the upper right corner.

The clock missed 2 birds today. It was 2 of the 1st birds. There were so many birds clocking so fast that it probably just missed them. I will watch to see what happens on the next tosses. If there still seems to be a problem we will hand check each bird. That said, we have 191 birds at this time.

The plan is to go back to 5 miles 2 more times before we jump across the river. The weather here is questionable the next 2 days so I will evaluate the situation each morning.

Good luck to all,

Bobby

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

We tossed from 3 miles 2 times this morning. The birds flew fantastic. All the birds beat me home and were inside on the 1st toss. I drove home faster on the 2nd toss and got to see the last 3 birds going inside. The plan is to toss 2 times from 5 miles tomorrow, weather permitting. I will post the results. If this goes well I will cross the Arkansas River and begin tosses on the other side the following day.

So far so good,

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. We started tosses on Monday of last week. The birds have been released 6 times from 100 yards in front of the loft, 3 times from 1/2 miles, and 2 times from 1 1/2 miles. We flagged the birds prior to the toss each day. The plan tomorrow is to toss from 3 miles 2 times. If everything goes well we will toss 5 miles after that. I will publish the results of the 5 mile toss. We will continue to toss almost everyday, weather permitting, increasing the distance every 2 or 3 tosses. It shouldn't take long to have the birds ready for our 75 mile activation toss.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock
