RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. I hope every one had a nice 4th of July Holiday. Not a lot to report. We are letting out birds everyday. The birds are really healthy and happy at this time and we hope that continues. Almost all the birds are still here. There are a few missing but not many. I will clock and post a list of all the birds before too long.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Holiday. Thank you to ALL our Veterans! These people are the very best of us! We have about 200 birds in the loft at this time with more on the way. We should end up with about 220 birds total. At this time there is not much to report as we are settling all the new arrivals and making sure they are eating and drinking. The birds that have been here a while have been outside 2 times so far and the rest are being trap trained in the settling cage. There are 2 birds missing and we have contacted the owners to replace them.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello breeders. The 1st group of race birds have been outside the loft. We will be letting out the 2nd group in the next few days depending on the weather. At this time all the birds are healthy. We have about 140 birds in the loft right now with more on the way. Let your friends and fellow flyers know about this years race series. This will increase the money in your prize pool. Go to our website at rivervalleyroundup.com and look at our newly constructed settling cage. This will allow many more birds outside at the same time and give them a much better view of their surroundings. We continue to trap train the birds in groups and settle the newcomers to the loft.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello Breeders. We continue to receive birds each week. We have about 200 perches reserved at this time. About 100 birds are in the loft as of today. All the birds look really good. About 1/2 are ready to go outside but I'm waiting for a nice day with little or no wind. The payout for this years race series would be much greater if everyone would let other flyers know about the 2016 race series. Many are probably not aware there is a River Valley Roundup Race or that you are participating. You would receive a much greater payout with 300 birds than with 200. We plan to increase the race fees next year from $125 to $150. The extra $25 per bird will add thousands of dollars to the prize pool.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello breeders. We are getting more birds every week now. We have more coming tomorrow. That will give us about 90 birds in the loft so far with more to come. We will stop taking race birds in June. All the birds in the loft are looking good at this time. Many are moulting heavily as many of you keep the breeders on extended lights. When they arrive here they are put onto normal daylight hours and this creates a heavy moult. I have 1 group of about 40 birds coming through the traps with all the bobs down. After a few more times they will go out for the 1st time without being in the settling cage. The other birds are getting used to the settling cage at this time and soon will start coming through the traps with a couple of bobs raised. We are finishing a new settling cage that is 12 ft. long by over 3 1/2 ft. wide by 2 ft. high. this will allow many birds outside at the same time. It also leaves over 1/2 of the landing area free so the birds can land and trap without taking the settling cage down each time. Once all the 2016 race birds are trap trained and I'm not afraid of hawk problems, we will remove it. We are expecting a great 2016 race series!

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello race participants. We are receiving birds every week now for our race series. I think we are ahead of last year at this time. Most flyer's send their birds in April and May. This year the race sections have solid floors down with ground corn cob on top. We also covered the doweled doors with clear plastic. This makes a much drier and more cozy environment than the expanded metal floors. This time of year here, there is a lot of rain and humidity that can cause dampness in the loft. This in turn promotes the growth of bacteria and germs and causes additional stress on the young pigeons. By using solid floors, ground corn cob bedding, and clear plastic over the doors the birds are protected and appear calm and happy. We are currently trap training the 1st arrivals and will have them out soon.

Good luck to all,

Bobby Pollock

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

It's that time again! Birds began arriving today with more coming tomorrow. When the birds arrive they get "dunked" and given an Ideala pill to help recharge them. We put them in a breeding cage with rich food and water so they can learn to eat and drink. While in the breeding cage they are given a worm pill and vaccinated for PMV and Herpes. When we are confident they are ready, we move them to a racing section where they can go out into a settling cage. We are only taking 300 birds this year on a 1st come basis. Good luck to all!

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Hello everyone. I hope your breeding season is going well. Hopefully many champions are in the nest. Many are training their old birds now in preparation for the upcoming Old Bird Season. I hope everyone has a successful season and finds at least 1 super Old Bird Champion in the group. The last birds being returned should go out on Tuesday. All breeders participating in the 2016 Race Series will need to go to the website at rivervalleyroundup.com and enter. A number of people verbally committed and thought I signed them up. I'm not able to remember everyone so you will need to do this yourself or contact me. If you have any problems or questions don't hesitate to call. We are maxing out at 300 birds this year on a 1st come basis. So sign up as soon as possible. Also, several people asked me to hold back perch fee money from their winnings to pay for perch fees for this year. I mailed out checks without deducting perch fees so you will need to send payments for your 2016 birds. We are looking forward to a great race series!

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

All checks under $600 have been written. We plan to mail them out tomorrow. Everyone who won money and wanted birds returned had the postage deducted from their prize money. We plan to mail birds out right after January 1st. We WILL contact each person who requested their birds back before shipping their birds. As stated in race rule #13, flyers have 10 days after the final race to request their birds be returned. After that they become our property. A flyer who needs birds will be picking them up in a few days. Everyone who won more than $600 MUST submit a W-9 Form before their money can be sent.

Thank you to everyone who participated,

Bobby Pollock
