LOFT FLY

WE HOPE THIS FINDS EVERYONE WELL.

THE BIRDS WERE LOFT FLOWN TODAY, AS IT LOOKS LIKE IT MAY BE MONDAY BEFORE WE CAN TRAIN AGAIN, DUE TO RAIN AND FOG.  WE WILL SEE.  THE BIRDS LANDED TODAY AND A HAWK CAME BY, WE MISSED SOME BIRDS ON THE SCAN, AS THEY ABOUT BROKE THE TRAP GETTING IN.  SOME OTHERS TOOK BACK OFF.  THE HAWKS HAVE BEEN VERY BAD THIS YEAR, MORE SO THAN ANY YEAR BEFORE.  IT GOES WITH THE WEATHER, RAIN, WHICH IS DAMN NEAR A DAILY EVENT. NEXT WEEK LOOKS BETTER, SO WE PLAN TO PICK IT UP, SIGNIFICANTLY.

THANKS,

TIM and KENNY

FIRST TOSS

WE HOPE THIS FINDS EVERYONE WELL.

WE HAD OUR FIRST TOSS TODAY AND THINGS WENT WELL. IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE RACE, YOU SHOULD BE AWARE, THAT ON THESE SHORT, AND EVEN SOME OF THE LONGER ONES, THE BIRDS RARELY LAND AND TRAP.  THE HAVE BEEN OUT FOR HOURS EACH DAY, FLYING, AND THESE SHORT TOSSES ARE A FRACTION OF THEIR DAILY FLYING TIME.  LAST YEAR, I POSTED A VIDEO OF A 40 MILE TOSS, WHERE THE BIRDS CAME HOME AND TOOK OFF ROUTING.  I THINK IT IS STILL ON UTUBE.  WE HAD A MASSIVE THUNDERSTORM THIS AFTERNOON, WHICH MEANS WE WILL PROBABLY HAVE FOG TOMORROW.  TRAINING WILL BE EVERY GOOD DAY, AND I TEND TO GET DISTANCE QUICKLY, BECAUSE I DONT SEE A LOT OF VALUE IN SHORT TOSSES.  GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR FLYING THE RACE.

TRAINING TO BEGIN

WE HOPE THIS FINDS EVERYONE WELL.

THE WEATHER HAS BEEN VERY UNCHARACTERISTIC FOR NC THIS SUMMER. WE HAVE HAD RAIN FOR THREE WEEKS DAILY IN SOME FORM.  SOMETIMES 5 MINUTE SHOWER, SOMETIMES FOR HOURS.  COMBINE THAT WITH OUR NORMAL HIGH TEMPS, AND HUMIDITY, AND IT HAS BEEN HARD ON THE BIRDS. THE TENTH FLIGHT IS VERY CLOSE TO BEING IN, AND I PLAN ON STARTING TRAINING THIS WEEK.  THERE IS A CHANCE FOR SHOWERS, 50% EVERY DAY FOR THE NEXT 15 DAYS, SO I WILL GET THEM OUT EARLY AS POSSIBLE--A LOT OF FOG IN THE AM--THE BIRDS HAVE BEEN FLYING GOOD, THE MOULT HAS BEEN A LITTLE SLOW FOR MY LIKING THOUGH.

THERE ARE 4 FLYERS THAT REPLACED BIRDS, ONLY TO HAVE THEIR LOST BIRDS RETURN.  2 AFTER THREE WEEKS, TOGETHER, IN PERFECT SHAPE.  THOSE WITH AN EXTRA BIRD:  YOUR LAST BIRD SENT IN, OR REPLACEMENT, WILL HAVE ITS EBAND REMOVED AND THAT RESULTS IN NO ONE OVER THE LIMIT OF 4. THESE BIRDS WILL CONTINUE IN THE LOFT, AND WILL BE RETURNED POST FINAL, IF STILL HERE.  THEY WILL CONTINUE TO TRAIN, BUT NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE SERIES.  THEY WILL ALSO NOT GO TO ANY OF THE RACES.

I HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF SOME INCREDIBLE SICKNESS THAT IS GOING THROUGH YBS. GUYS HAVE HAD THE BIRDS LOFT FLY FOR 50 MINUTES, COME DOWN, AND DIE ON THE ROOF.  SCARY!!!!  ITS VERY STRANGE WHAT IS GOING ON, AS THE BIRDS TESTED NEGATIVE FOR EVERY KNOWN DISEASE.    LETS KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED.

ALL TOSSES WILL BE POSTED ON WINCOMPANION.  GOOD LUCK TO ALL, AND THANKS FOR FLYING THE RACE.

LOFT FLY

I TURNED THE CLOCK ON TODAY FOR A LOFT FLY, AND NATURALLY HAD AN INTERNET ISSUE--LOADING VERY SLOW.  THE SCAN FAILED TO GET ABOUT 20 BIRDS.  I WILL RUN IT AGAIN TOMORROW AND SEE IF WE CAN GET ALL OF THEM.  THERE ARE RIGHT AT 440 BIRDS HERE.

END OF JULY

WE HOPE THIS FINDS EVERYONE WELL.

WE ARE IN THE WAITING MODE AS THE 10th FLIGHT IS ABOUT 1/4 OF THE WAY UP.  BIRDS ARE OUT MOST DAYS EARLY, AS THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY HAVE BEEN BRUTAL THIS SUMMER!!!!  HEALTH SEEMS TO HAVE STABILIZED, AS WE HAVE HAD ANY SICK BIRDS IN A WHILE.  BIRDS ARE FLYING GOOD.  THE HAWK COME BY EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, CHASES BUT CANT CATCH EM.  NOT A BAD THING AS THEY FLY LIKE HELL WHEN HE COMES AROUND.  IN ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS WE WILL START TRAINING-ALL TOSSES POSTED ON WINCOMPANION.  I THINK EVERONE/THING INVOLVED IS READY.  THIS IS NECESSARY BUT ROUTINE.  TIME TO SEE WHAT WE HAVE GOT.  FOR THOSE OF YOU RACING--GOOD LUCK.

PULLED 10TH. HANDS ON INVENTORY

We hope this finds everyone well.

We pulled the 10th flight today, and did a hands on inventory.  There are 439 birds on the clock.  3 birds were rechipped after the last inventory, and downloaded into the clock.  Those 3 came up as foreign, so I will have to redownload back into the clock.  They are:  E-42194-BB, VITA-3631-PEN, and ARPU-33648-BC. That will give us, 442 in the loft.  I also had a BB escape the crate, and took off flying.  will catch it on the next inventory.  This brings our total to 443, with one bird still in the hospital, CCM-1808-BB.  giving us 444.  Please be aware that everyone who had the opportunity to replace did not do so.  The birds had good weight, I thought their feather was a little rough, but everything seemed healthy, and the flying is good.  It has rained 16 out of the last 18 days here.  Thundershowers daily, or at night.  Very humid now, and DAMP.  Heat index daily is off the scale.  Will let these flights grow in, and then start training. Thanks for flying the race and good luck.

LATE JUNE

WE HOPE THIS FINDS EVERYONE WELL.  THINGS ARE IN THE ROUTINE STAGE HERE.  BIRDS GO OUT EVERY DAY, LOFT GETS CLEANED BIRDS BACK IN, FED, WATER.  GET UP AND DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN THE NEXT DAY.  THE WEATHER HAS BEEN TERRIBLE THIS YEAR, IN TERMS OF HEAT, HUMIDITY, AND VERY LITTLE RAIN.  THE BIRDS GO OUT IN THE MORNING, WHEN THEY COME BACK IN, THEY ARE UNBELIEVEABLEY THIRSTY.  WHEN WE GET RAIN, IT IS IN THE FORM OF A SHOWER-GONE IN 10 MINUTES, SUN BACK OUT-MISERABLE!!  THE BIRDS ARE DOING FINE, THE 9th FLIGHT IS 3/4 OF THE WAY UP, AND WE WILL PULL THE 10th IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS, ONCE THE 9th IS IN.  HEALTH IS HOLDING, BUT I AM KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON THE YOUNGEST.  THEY ARE NOT OUT OF THE WOODS YET, BY ANY MEANS.  THE DAILY FLIGHTS ARE REALLY STRESSING THEM. I DO NOT USUALLY POST LOFT FLYS BECAUSE THE PAD MISSES SOME BIRDS.  IT SIMPLY CANT KEEP UP WITH THE NUMBER OF BIRDS COMING THROUGH.  IT THEN SHOWS BIRDS MISSING THAT ARE NOT.  WE WILL POST ANOTHER HANDS ON INVENTORY IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS WHEN WE PULL 10.   NOT REALLY MUCH MORE TO REPORT, JUST WILL BE WAITING ON 10, THEN WE CAN GET TO TRAINING.  CANT WAIT.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

WE HOME THIS FINDS EVERYONE WELL.  I POSTED A HANDS ON INVENTORY ON WINCOMPANION.  CHECK IT FOR YOUR BIRDS STATUS.  WE HAD 441 ON THE CLOCK, 16 THAT HAD TO BE CLEANED UP ON THE CLOCK, AND 6 IN THE HOSPITAL.  NO NEW BIRDS HAVE GOTTEN SICK IN THE LAST WEEK.  3 BIRDS MUST BE RECHIPPED, AND DID NOT REGISTER.  WE HAVE A TOTAL OF 463 BIRDS PRESENT.  THE BIRDS HAVE BEEN FLYING GREAT, LONG TIMES ON THE WING.  HAWKS CONTINUE TO PESTER THEM.  YOUNG ONES NEED TO GET A LITTLE OLDER TO ESCAPE SICKNESS THREAT.  THE 9th'S THAT WERE PULLED, ARE COMING SLOWLY, DUE TO EXTENSIVE FLYING AND HEAT.  THEY ARE NOW ABOUT 1/4 OF WAY IN.  BIRDS HANDLED VERY GOOD.  VERY PLEASED WITH THEIR CONDITION.  GOOD LUCK.

THE HEAT IS ON

WE HOPE EVERYTHING FINDS YOU WELL.  THE TEMPS ARE SOARING HERE, AS WELL AS WHERE MANY OF YOUR ARE, IM SURE.  THIS IS THE PRIME TIME FOR SICKNESS TO BREAK OUT, AND I REMOVED A BIRD TO THE HOSPITAL TODAY.  I HAVE NOT LET THE BIRDS OUT FOR THE PAST TWO DAYS, AS WE HAVE BEEN IN THE UPPER 90'S AND HIGH HUMIDITY.  I HAVE 12 TO MOVE OVER ON TUESDAY, AND THAT WILL BE THE FINAL MOVE.  ALL OF THE OTHER BIRDS ARE UP AND ROUTING GOOD.  ITS FUNNY THE BIRDS DONT GET SICK IN THE ISOLATION OR TRAP TRAINING SECTIONS, BUT AS SOON AS YOU STRESS THEM, THEY CANT SEEM TO TAKE IT.  PLEASE LEARN SOMETHING FROM THIS, IF YOU HAVE BIRDS GETTING LOST, OR SICK, MAKE A NOTE OF IT, AND CHECK THE BREEDING PAIRS.  I HAVE ABOUT 20-25 PEOPLE, SEASONED OLR FLYERS WHO IN 4 YEARS HAVE NEVER LOST A BIRD TO SICKNESS--THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING THE OTHERS ARE NOT???  I AM WATCHING THE BIRDS VERY CLOSELY, AND STARTED THEM ON PARASTOP TWO DAYS AGO.  DONT REALLY LIKE THE WAY THEY LOOK, ALTHOUGH IM SURE THE HEAT IS KICKING THEIR BUTTS.  HERE IS WHAT I HAVE OBSERVED:  IF THEY GET THE VIRUS BEFORE THEY HAVE DROPPED THEIR  3rd FLIGHT, THEY HAVE A GOOD CHANCE TO RECOVER--HAD 8 IN THE HOSPITAL--5 ARE RECOVERING.  IF THEY GET THE VIRUS WHEN ON THE 3rd OR 4th FLIGHT THEY WILL DIE WITHIN 12 HOURS.  IF THEY GET PAST THE 4th FLIGHT THEY DONT GET SICK.  OBVIOUSLY I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED, JUST AM CONCERNED, WE WILL SEE HOW THEY DO.  IM NOT USE TO SICK BIRDS, AND WHEN I SEE ONE, IT BOTHERS ME.  WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED.
